TESTICLES: Male sex glands located inside each scrotal sac, which produce sperm and sex hormones.

TESTOSTERONE: Male sex hormone par excellence, produced by the testicles. It is responsible for sexual behavior and male secondary sexual characteristics. Testosterone is also produced in the adrenal glands of both men and women, and in the latter it is partly responsible for female sexual behavior.

THEATRALIZATION: Act of simulation of enjoyment or orgasm, to please the partner. It can be used to hide total frigidity or anorgasmia.

TRANSSEXUAL: People who have undergone a sex change operation. Man or woman who feels that he or she is actually a member of the opposite sex trapped in the wrong body.

TRANSVESTITE: A person who has a strong compulsion to dress in clothes of the opposite sex; for many transvestites the latter is necessary in order to enjoy sexual activity. More frequent in males.

TRICHOMONIASIS: Infection of the vagina, often sexually transmitted.

TUBAL LIGATION: A method of female surgical sterilization in which the fallopian tubes are cut and tied to prevent pregnancy by blocking the descent of eggs or the ascent of sperm.

UNVIRGIN: To take a person’s virginity.

URETHRA: The tube that carries urine from the bladder to the outside. In men, the urethra is also the channel through which semen is ejaculated.

URETHRITIS: Inflammation of the urethra caused by an infection, usually bacterial.

UTERUS: Womb, internal genital organ of the woman in which the fertilized egg is deposited and the embryo develops.

VAGINA: Organ of copulation in women. Short, moist, soft duct between the vulva and the cervix, into which the penis is inserted during sexual intercourse.

VAGINAL LIPS: Constituent part of the vulva, female genital lips. The smaller, inner ones are called labia minora, and the larger, outer ones labia majora.

VAGINAL LUBRICATION: Characteristic transparent fluid secreted by the vaginal walls that facilitates penetration, which occurs during the first part of the female sexual response and upon arousal.

VAGINAL SHOWER: Device for injecting water or other liquid under pressure into the vagina for hygienic purposes. Not recommended as a form of birth control and unnecessary for hygiene if the vaginal flora is normal.

VAGINOPLASTY: One of the best known surgical procedures in intimate surgery to restore vaginal muscles that have lost tone due to childbirth or the aging process.

VAGINITIS: Inflammation of the vagina, usually bacterial or fungal (yeast).

VASECTOMY: A male surgical sterilization method in which the vas deferens is cut and tied so that sperm cannot pass through and reach the semen.

VIBRATOR: A battery-operated device, usually shaped like a penis, that vibrates and is used to stimulate the clitoris or vagina.

VIRUS: Infectious agent (microbe) responsible for numerous diseases in all living beings. They are extremely small particles, and unlike bacteria, they can neither maintain themselves nor multiply except as parasites of a living cell.

VOYEURISM: Paraphilia, compulsive form of sexual behavior in which a person (usually a man) takes pleasure in watching other people’s sexual activities, or in watching others undress. Also called scopophilia.

VULVA: External sexual organ of the woman, entrance to the vagina.

Z

ZOOPHILIA: Paraphilic sexual behavior involving sexual contact with animals.
